PACIFICA QUARTET

Photo: Elliot Mandel

Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style, and often-daring repertory choices, Pacifica Quartet has achieved international recognition over the past twenty-six years.  The Quartet won the 1998 Naumburg Chamber Music Award, Chamber Music America's 2002 Cleveland Quartet Award, and, in 2006, a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. For its recording of Elliott Carter quartets, the group received the Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance of 2008.

Named the quartet-in-residence at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in 2012, the Pacifica was previously in residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 2017, the Quartet was appointed to lead the Center for Advanced Quartet Studies at the Aspen Music Festival and School.

“The playing by Pacifica Quartet was characterized by immaculate precision, on-the-mark intonation, incisive rhythms, and a sense of give-and-take among the participants that made every piece seem like a conversation among the protagonists.”
