YOUTH COMPETITION
SFCM sponsors an annual Youth Chamber Music Competition. Its primary purpose is to encourage students in the Central
New York area, grades 7-12, to discover the joy of preparing and performing chamber music under the guidance of a coach.
2022 COMPETITION
SFCM’s annual Youth Chamber Music Competition was again held virtually in 2022. Four ensembles participated.
There was no entry fee for the competition. Participating ensembles could have 3 to 8 musicians and each had a coach. Students must be in grades 7 through 12 and enrolled in a New York school district within 90 miles of Syracuse or home-schooled in one of those districts.
Each ensemble received written evaluations from our two judges, and students in two of the ensembles were selected to receive prize money. The winning group was invited to perform at the beginning of our final SFCM subscription concert just ahead of the Vonsattel Piano Quartet. Coaches received a small payment for their time.
Watch for an announcement about the 2023 competition in January 2023.
